The goal of the GPS-RTK project is to create an infrastructure constituted by GPS permanent stations and activate
a service of a real time positioning with centimetrical precision.
The free service allowed public users, private users and scientific users to determine in the area of Friuli region
a position with a centimetrical precision. The second goal of the project is to determine the distribution of deformation
in this region, to estimate interseismic strain accumulation on its active faults to better assess seismic hazards, to
monitor hazardous faults for emergency response management, and to provide infrastructure for geodetic data management and processing.
The project, three years long started in 2006. The project is co-financed by the
Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia
with founds assigns to realize scientific projects (art. 11 L.R. 11/2003 e art.
for scientif projects with a significant impact to the production. previsti dall'articolo 23 della legge regionale 10 novembre 2005,
n. 26 (Disciplina generale in materia di innovazione, ricerca scientifica e sviluppo tecnologico).
The project is coordinated by the Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e Geofisica Sperimentale '
OGS with the collaboration of many others partners:
The project has also the support of the Ohio State University, Columbus (USA).
During the projects, many conventions has been stipulated with institutions which works in the same area:
These cooperations makes the FReDNet Network reliably and efficient and well insert in the international context.
